The Hisun Sector E1 is the perfect mid-sized UTV. For starters, it provides the same power and comes with the same features available in a full-size UTV. From the aluminium wheels and winch to the powerful engine and 4-wheel drive system, this mid-sized UTV will get you to your desired destination.
Despite its reliable performance, the Hisun Sector E1 is prone to several problems. These problems can leave your UTV sitting idly in a mechanic shop for an extended period. Want to know the most common Hisun Sector E1 problems and how to troubleshoot them?
Read on.
Replacing Faulty Battery Under Warranty
Most UTV and ATV owners assume that their vehicle’s warranty covers all parts. Well, they are not wrong. Under the free replacement battery, your ATV or UTV battery is usually covered with a free replacement if the battery stops working or malfunctions.
When your battery is under a Pro-rata warranty, it means you won’t receive a replacement battery. Instead, you receive a discount over the retail price of the battery in case it gets damaged. Once you buy the battery under the Pro-rata warranty, you’ll receive a fresh warranty.
If your battery gets damaged or malfunctions, you can run a load or voltage test to determine where the problem lies. If the battery is damaged, you can replace it. Most people replace their batteries under warranty which is a lengthy process. As such, you can have your ATV or UTV in the mechanic’s shop for a long time.
Sector E1 Dry Cell Batteries
The Sector E1 comes with a 48-volt deep cycle battery that powers all the components in the UTV. The battery has 8 Discover dry cells. Hisun chose to use the dry cells over lead-acid batteries because the former requires less maintenance. In addition, they are superior to the latter in many ways.
While the dry cell batteries are superior in terms of performance, the Hisun Sector E1 and its electrical components exert too much load on the batteries. Eventually, two or more cells will go out. This will leave the other cells working harder.
For the first few miles, the UTV will work fine on a full charge. However, it will run into issues especially when climbing low inclines. If this happens, the dash display may show the 4C53 error code.
Cost of Replacing Dry Cell Batteries
As aforementioned, the Hisun Sector E1 comes with 48-volt deep cycle batteries with a capacity of 2080 Amp/hour. The batteries take 6 to 10 hours to charge. Deep cycle batteries can deliver small amounts of currents over extended periods, usually hours or even days.
Designed to deliver plenty of starting power, deep cycle batteries can withstand long, slow recharges and long, deep discharges. Another Hisun Sector E1 problem especially for UTVs no longer under warranty is the cost of replacing the dry cell batteries.
A single dry-cell battery can set you back $300 to $400. So, for the Hisun Sector E1 which has 8 dry cells, you’ll be required to pay between $2,400 to $3,200. As you can see, it won’t be cheap to replace the batteries.
Mud Flaps
Mud flaps are crucial components for every vehicle. Used in combination with the vehicle fender, mud flaps protect the vehicle, passengers and other vehicles from flying debris and mud. As you already know, when you drive your UTV, the tires spin very fast.
If driving on muddy terrain, the rotating tires will throw debris and mud into the air. So, without the mud flaps, the mud and flying debris would hit other vehicles, passengers and people passing by.
Besides protecting other vehicles, mud flaps also protect your UTV. How you may ask. Well, mud flaps prevent grime, dirt and mud from reaching the sensitive parts of your Hisun Sector E1. One of these sensitive parts is the undercarriage which is prone to corrosion and rust.
When it comes to Sector E1, the mud flaps on the UTV are not wide enough. As such, when exploring different trails, the spinning tires will spray mud and dirt into the cabin. Not only will this leave the driver and passengers muddy.
But the mud will cake under the seats and floor, in the fan and the sides of the batteries. To avoid performance issues, we recommend that you clean the mud. To prevent future mud sprays, you can extend the Sector E1 mud flaps by bolting extra rubber matting.
Poor Customer Service
Another frustrating Hisun Sector E1 problem is poor customer service. Sector E1 owners in the US have complained on forums, and social media in regards to the lack of or poor customer support from Hisun Motors Corp in the US.
This is true especially when Sector E1 owners want to have repairs or replacements done under warranty. Generally, when it comes to repairs or replacement of parts under warranty, everything is usually taken care of upfront. To do so, the UTV owner has to submit the required paperwork beforehand.
With Hisun, the process differs. The UTV owner has to send in proof of the needed replacement or repair. Upon receiving the paperwork, the company will decide the action to take – whether to make repairs or replacements under warranty.
This process leads to long wait times. During this period, your UTV is sitting idly in the shopping. In addition, not every time are spare parts readily available through Hisun Motor. In such cases, the parts have to be shipped from overseas which also takes time.
Final Thoughts
Hisun Sector E1 UTV is an excellent off-highway vehicle with reliable performance and is available at a fraction of the cost. However, like other machines, the Hisun Sector E1 is prone to problems.
They include brake problems, the high cost of replacing the dry cell batteries, small mud flaps, poor customer support and replacing batteries under warranty. The good news is the company is continually innovating to overcome Hisun Sector E1 problems. This will ensure customers have the best UTV.
